The admired wonders..!!!
Ross Island: the town once called “Paris in the East” covered in Jungle
A small island on the Port Blair Offing is the Ross Island. It was flourished as the center of governing this area in the period of England Territory and called “Paris in the East”. But, the earthquake arose in 1941 destroyed this island and then Japanese Army invaded and abandoned. At present, about 60 buildings remain since those days and the scenery as if the artificial physical creature is swallowed by woods makes us remind the situation of Angkor Archaeological Park in Cambodia. In the island, trails connect each other make us walk easy, and view the remains of plantation cities and bunker of Japanese Army.
Andaman Japanese Old Battlefield: 1942-1945
On 23rd March 1942, the beginning period of WWII, Japanese Army landed Andaman. Raided English Army, and occupied this area. Japanese Army built more than 300 bunkers along the coast in the capital city Port Blair. There are the remains of bunkers in various areas in the island. The Solitary Prison in Andaman was built by England in 1858, and as the political prisoners the rebels of the Indian Independence Movement were sent from the mainland India and prisoned. Andaman was called “Siberia in India England Territory”. Japanese Army also used this Solitary Prison. Later, the atomic bombings were at Hiroshima and Nagasaki, and the WWII ended. In the early October 1945, Japanese Army withdrew from Andaman. The picture in the center below is a picture at the time of Japanese Army occupied exhibited in the Solitary Prison Museum in Andaman. The signboard of “Andaman Prison” and in the center a man walking with Japanese Army is Subhash Chandra Bose who belonged to the Indian National Army and acted with Japanese Army.
