The admired wonders..!!!

The Sikhs' sacred city Amritsar

Amritsar, a city of Sikhs is located in Punjab State and shares the international border with Lahore in Pakistan. Our tour package covers two main places, one is the holy Golden Temple and second is the flag ceremony held at the border every evening resulting in livening cheers of thousands of Indians and Pakistanis.

The Sikhs advancing into the world

Foreigners have a generic perception that Indians generally wear turbans as part of their daily attire. But this is not really true because turbans are worn only by Sikhs on regular basis and they form only 2% of Indian population. The reason for this stereotype is that many Sikhs have advanced into the world since the British era, resulting in image formation in the minds of people all around the world from the early time that those with the turbans are Indians. Sikhism's doctrines include the denial of the caste system, idolatry, sacrificing the secular society to become a priest, or for penance, and accept the environment in which one is placed and connected to the secular society. The trends observed in Sikh temples like taking off your shoes and depositing them at the entrance before entering a Gurdwara, food being served to all the visitors regardless of religion in Langar (the kitchen in a Gurdwara) is very particular to this religion. All these activities are carried by volunteers visiting the Sikh temples irrespective of their cadres or position in the society.

  • A Sikh trainee holding the Sikh weapon as a symbol.

  • View of ablution in the lake and the holy place from the entrance of the Golden Temple.

The langar (the common kitchen and dining where food is served for free) of the Golden Temple. Volunteer workers making meals to feed the pilgrims

The flag ceremony

The only point on the border between India and Pakistan which is open for the foreigners or tourists for last 60 years is the “flag ceremony” point. Since 1959, every evening, one hour before sunset a border closing ceremony is being held where national anthem is sung by thousands and thousands of people on both sides of the border. It is not just a matter of singing songs, but is a reflection of existing harmony between the two nations exhibited by gestures like slowly bringing the flags of both the countries together followed by officers of Indian and Pakistani armies shaking hands.

  • The border gate to Wagah

  • The live and cheerful visitors

  • Pakistan Rangers behind the gate

  • The two flags lowered
